Found And Lost

My arm inadvertently brushed against my right breast, and I paused, hot water cascading over me. Nervous fingers confirmed the marble-sized lump.

Then:

negative mammogram

diagnosis: benign

relief

but?

lump

uneasy feeling

second opinion

biopsy

CANCER

surgery

chemotherapy

radiation

(and thankfully)

LIFE

I like the reversal in the title. It primes the reader for the tension in the story.

I’m with Michelle. I have that thought every time I read one of your posts about cancer. I’m really, really grateful for life.

Oh, and not in the weird massage happy ending way either – ha!

The best ending. I love the physical shape of this. The single-word lines really echo the uncertainty, waiting, process, inner turmoil.

I can only barely imagine the terror of that first inadvertent discovery. So glad it all worked out as it did.

Thank goodness for that uneasy feeling, and the decision to get a second opinion. So happy this ended so well. 🙂

My inner scientist saved my life. Most people would have just left it at being relieved. I was lucky.

I held my breath till the very last line. That feeling of panic you created was incredible! Two thumbs up.

Aw thanks Shailaja, that’s very sweet.
